My Story
Lori has an extensive in-house counsel experience with large multi-national companies, in addition to a background in commercial litigation. As a corporate generalist, Lori brings her expertise in providing advice and counsel across a wide range of legal disciplines in supporting all aspects of companies’ operations.
Lori was born in Seoul, Korea and adopted into a farming family in central Illinois. Growing up on a farm in a small community, Canton (near Peoria), Lori brings the deep-rooted Midwestern work ethics and values to everything she does. Lori enjoys visiting her mother who still resides on the family farm!
Lori graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois with a degree in Economics and minors in Math and Business Administration. While working for GTE (now Verizon), she attended law school at night. (She wouldn’t recommend this.) After GTE transferred her to the Dallas area, escaping the brutal Midwest winters, Lori finished up her legal studies at SMU as a visiting student and completed her law degree from Indiana University, Lori started her legal career at Winstead, Sechrest & Minick, P.C. (now Winstead P.C.) in commercial litigation in1991. Her corporate background led Lori to seek out an in-house position, so she accepted a position at IBM in 1994. After Brink’s, Incorporated, the leader in the armored car services industry moved its headquarters to Dallas, Lori jumped at the opportunity to be the first lawyer in Dallas and establish the legal department in 1999. In 2014, Lori became General Counsel and Corporate Secretary with Heartland Automotive Services, the largest Jiffy Lube franchisee and moved to GMF in late 2015.
Lori’s commercial litigation background includes complex lender liability cases, commercial real estate leasing disputes, and debt collection matters, conducting all phases of pretrial discovery, drafting, trial and mediation preparation and negotiating settlements. Lori has also managed employment and commercial litigation and dispute resolution in her corporate positions, including consumer insurance defense matters, real estate issues, and complex class action claims. Lori’s contract experience began at IBM where she worked on complex technology contracts, negotiating terms for hardware, software and services engagements, including licensing and intellectual property ownership rights. She gained further expertise at Brink’s, negotiating and drafting customer contracts for all sizes of customers up to the largest financial institutions in the U.S. and Canada. Lori has assisted in the development of a contract database, contract review processes and drafting standard customer agreements.
In her corporate roles, Lori has also worked with all aspects of corporate operations and product development, including regulatory compliance, negotiating mergers & acquisitions, and managing real estate transactions. Lori has experience in the document destruction industry, as well as international transactions related to banking and transportation. Her experience with regulatory compliance includes TSA, GLBA, Bank Secrecy Act, OCC, HIPAA, TSA, FAR and Federal contracting, EPA, OSHA, Customs, OFAC, FCPA, Antitrust, and other federal and state requirements.
Lori resides in Coppell with her lively pets, Christy the Westie and Angel the cat. Her daughter, Mackenzie, is studying Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas, Dallas. Together, they like to travel, shop, eat out and just hang out. Lori also enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Ted, friends and family, working out, traveling, movies, community events, and wine tasting. Lori also likes to read legal thrillers and romance novels in her free time.
Excited to join Fulton Jeang PLLC, Lori plans to expand on her corporate experience and share her expertise. Lori enjoys meeting new clients and gaining a thorough knowledge of their businesses' goals and operations to help them identify legal risks and find cost-effective and practical solutions.
