My Story

Starting Out. Jon started his legal career while in law school in Dallas, as a small-firm intern. Shortly after graduation he became an associate lawyer and general practitioner. He started a solo firm in his second year after being admitted to the Texas bar. From the day Jon founded that firm, he enjoyed the support of law firm mentors, his family, and many loyal clients. As consumer desktop and laptop computers entered the marketplace, he used them to innovate productivity and efficiency gains in the practice. He was an early experimenter, adopter, and user of legal technology. He still does that enthusiastically.

Career. From there Jon continues to grow in a corporate and law firm career focused on technology companies and tech-focused law firms. He formed and joined start-ups and served in Fortune 100 enterprises. Jon led in various roles within a variety of business entities -- as a global corporation General Counsel, enterprise software licensing department manager, managing director-corporate development, law firm partner, board member, and chairperson.

Some Core Beliefs. Many of Jon’s past roles were with successful, well-respected firms, but Jon has also experienced some valiant attempts that narrowly missed disaster, or that ran aground and restarted. Jon has worked with clients that navigated through market downturns, corporate strategy miscalculations, cyber attacks, and unforeseen executive and ownership crises. A core belief has come out of these experiences: anticipating, recognizing, and responding strategically and decisively to the threat or occurrence of disaster in the business world is part of what good lawyers do. Jon strives to serve his clients, guided by his core belief accompanied by experience, legal expertise, and sound judgment. Whatever happens, putting informed focus on excellent strategy and successful execution produces the best results for the client.

Family and Community. Jon has been married to his wife since their graduation from college together. They have a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren. There is a dog, too. Jon has served on the board of the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation for 17 years, and as a co-chairperson and governance committee chair.

Interests. His interests include organic farming and sustainable pasturing for cattle. He loves learning and enjoys daily reading, news, fiction, and nonfiction of all kinds. The classics of human thought and spirituality inspire him. He walks a lot, works out some, and swims when he can. He studied photography and takes a lot of pictures. He grew up with classical music, yet he enjoys jazz, rock, folk, you name it. Sometimes he makes noise with a saxophone. Dinner out, a movie and a beer sound good. So does cooking at home. Conversation with a friend or a new acquaintance is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Enjoying the diversity of people and experiences in his life is another. He has been known to wear a t-shirt that says, “Life is Good.”

The Point of this Story. Jon wants you to know that he chooses to practice law at Fulton Jeang PLLC because of the quality of his colleagues and the firm’s intense commitment to each client’s success.
