My Story

Wei Wei Jeang is an attorney registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office who works closely with clients to develop strategies to protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. Educated and trained as a Computer Engineer, Wei Wei (pronounced Wā Wā, as in she is “way-way-out-there”) works with clients in many different areas of technology, ranging from computers and software, predictive analysis-based medical solutions, IoT technology, telecommunications, firefighting and emergency equipment, oil and gas exploration, green energy, and medical devices. More recently, she has been working with her clients on pursuing inventions that incorporate blockchain, machine-learning, and artificial intelligence technologies.

Most recently, Wei Wei was recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of patent law and trademark law. Wei Wei assists clients in obtaining patent protection, licensing patent portfolios, and enforcing those patents. Wei Wei considers one of the most exciting parts of her work to be devising an intellectual property strategy for a new product offering for her client, incorporating all available tools in the toolkit – design and utility patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. In addition to established companies, Wei Wei has worked with many startup clients to develop, build, and license patent and trademark portfolios that are often the companies’ most valuable assets.

Wei Wei is also well-versed in trademark law, having been involved in trademark prosecution, trademark litigation, as well as trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings. An expanding area of her practice involves assisting and counseling online stores with intellectual property protection and dealing with intellectual property infringement allegations and defenses.

Wei Wei is a frequent speaker and author on intellectual property law topics, and she is also commonly found behind the lectern talking passionately about implicit bias to audiences at various bar organizations, law firms, and corporations. She firmly believes every person and organization is responsible for addressing implicit bias to mitigate its damaging impact.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Wei Wei immigrated with her family to the U.S. at eleven years old and initially lived in California and Florida. Totally immersed in a new environment and culture, she quickly overcame the language barrier, made new friends, and thrived in the academic setting. Before deciding to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to pursue Computer Engineering following her desire to fully participate in what she anticipated to be revolutionary advances in this field, Wei Wei briefly considered studying medicine (following her father’s career path), veterinary medicine (following her love of animals), and architecture (following her love for art and design).

After graduation, Wei Wei enrolled in the year-long engineering training program at Caterpillar Inc., the foremost earthmoving equipment manufacturer based in Peoria, Illinois. She worked in its research department on the GPS-guided unmanned mining truck project and studied new advances in new technologies to determine the feasibility of incorporation into Caterpillar engineering processes and products. One day a telephone call from the Caterpillar patent legal department dramatically changed the trajectory of her path. Urged to consider patent law as a new direction, she joined Caterpillar’s patent department, quickly passed the patent bar exam, and worked on patenting innovations such as the Automatic Guided Vehicles, GPS-guided mining trucks, and numerous other inventions.

Another fork in the road presented itself to Wei Wei in the form of an offer to work in a Dallas boutique law firm, Baker Mills & Glast, under the guidance of Mr. Jerry Mills in 1989, thus beginning her career in the Dallas legal community. In 1990, Wei Wei was part of the group that followed Mr. Mills when he brought the entire intellectual property section to Baker Botts. That year she also started attending Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law to earn a Juris Doctorate degree. While working part-time and attending law school full-time, and continuing post-graduation, she worked closely with engineers and patent counsels at Texas Instruments, EDS, and DSC Communications (later Alcatel) at Baker Botts. Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr then recruited Wei Wei to build and head up its patent practice group, which eventually included seven patent attorneys and a patent agent with a client roster that included Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Nokia, and Research In Motion (Blackberry) by the time she left the firm to join the partner ranks at Haynes and Boone. After seven years at Haynes and Boone and four years at Andrews Kurth, Wei Wei decided to leave the big firm environment behind and joined her close friend of over 20 years, Suzy Fulton, at Grable Martin Fulton PLLC in 2015.

As a co-manager and co-founding member of Fulton Jeang PLLC, Wei Wei is able to continue to provide the highest level of legal services but at more reasonable costs because of the firm’s unique virtual business model and low overhead. By affiliating with other firm lawyers who also offer a breadth and depth of experience in areas such as corporate, securities, corporate compliance, employment, immigration, real estate, estate planning, and litigation, Wei Wei strives to be a valuable resource to her clients no matter what kinds of issues they face.

Wei Wei actively serves the city of Parker where she has lived for 20+ years. She currently serves on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission (for over a decade), as well as on the Comprehensive Plan Committee and Water Impact Fee Capital Improvement Advisory Committee. She first became involved with Parker's city government when she found out it outlawed peacocks. That revelation led her to launch a petition and public relations push about the unreasonable law, and resulted in her rewriting the city's animal laws at the City Council's request. In addition to providing guidance to her two kids who are no longer kids, Wei Wei also designs and makes jewelry, sews, paints, and wrangles a diverse furred, feathered, and scaled menagerie at home.
